Welcome to Library Lists, a weekly part of
my blog where I try to make a list that's entirely based around a fluffy
background, but won't go flat on his face in a competitive environnement
In a nutshell: fluff first, competitive
second!
So if you're looking for an army that appears to be taken right out of Dan Abnetts hands, just klick 'Library Lists' in the Index and look for something that meest your taste.

Today, everything is about the following idea:
"When an Inquisitor calls upon an army, what army would that be, how would
it look like,...?".
Well, we know an Inquisitor can basically call any army to the field, but where looking now for one that just screams 'Inquisition'. So no Space Marine Companies, Grey Knight Purifier Legions, 3Man Squads in Razorbacks,... We could try to use a Guard list or alike, but Grey Knights are just way more fitting.

So now I'll go over the different units,
and why I think they fit the setting:
Inquisitor X

Yes, this guy is rules-wise Coteaz, but
please don't let it actually be him! Fluff-wise, this is your Inquisitor, your
hero, the guy who has called this army to the field.

Now my next buddies really need an
introduction. Ladies & Gens, they've been gone since codex Deamonhunters,
you've frequently talked about them, and are the reason meltavets exist:
Remember them? Yes you do! The true
warriors of the Inquistion, famous for their hot-shotters and Chimera's, and,
as said earlier, the reason why The Imperium trains Guard veterans.
Game-wise, these are obviously SM killers, and when facing hordes you can always opt to fire the meltas and plasmas at their transports, and then flame and bolter them to their death.

I just couldn't let this go: the
idea of some kind of tech-freak team at the back of the battlefield, where 2
Jokaero's and their constructs give some long-range support. Just to keep the
theme, I gave them a Chimera, from which they can opt to fire. Now the total
gives you a lot of anti-tank firepower (even the chimera can do some good
anti-AV10/11 shooting), which can get a lot of bonus goodies thanks to our
monkeys. The plasmaguns are game-wise a good option to shoot out of the hatch
with, if the servitors decide to take a nap.

A good example of the Inquisitors trust
could be seen in this squad of Psykers (whether that trust is in the psykers or
the their guards, is another matter). Fitting nicely in our ever present
chimera, the psykers can unleash a devastating blast of psychic energy. Now,
from a gaming point of view I was afraid that they could be killed to easily if
the squad only consisted out of psykers, so I wanted to add something. Then I
realised no one would ever dare to give a group of psykers free control over a
chimera, so some intimidating servitors wouldn’t be out of place.

Yes, I know, not a good name, but how else
do you call such a unit? This is really the bodyguard of our Inquisitor X,
ready to protect him against any foe (or join him on an heroic charge). And
yes, I don’t like them, but they are just to fitting to leave them out: I
included an Inquisitorial Landraider. Yes, it’s a ‘normal’ Godhammer one (we
really need some more lascannons).

I wanted to include one more thing: the
Adeptus Arbites. So I thought, why can’t they just use the acolyte rules (but
then with stormbolters)? Now I know most
of you people will say that Arbites don’t use razorbacks, and that’s true. I
simply see this as some sort of anti-crowd vehicle, used by the Arbites to fire
into an angry mob of citizens. This is a good example where you can use other
models rules to represent something you consider fitting background-wise.
Vindicare
Assassin

Now you may argue that Vindicare Assassins
are very rare and that they don’t just pop up in every Inquisitorial army, I
would never dare to kick this buddy out of the list.
So that gives us in total:

Now, the list as whole pretty much plays
itself, but before I get on, here are some ideas to keep in mind when playing
this list:
1.
Don’t
play aggressively, wait for your opponent to come to you (unless you’re
fighting e.g. tau)
2.
Keep
the Land Raider in the center, and use it to counter-attack juicy units like
Terminators/VVets/… who’d like to use power weapons but hate it when they’re
used against them.
3.
Don’t
underestimate the amount of firepower your chimeras have.
4.
As
usual: take out vehicles first so you’re
Stormtroopers/Psykers can show the meat inside how much AP1-3 hurts.
5.
???
6.
Profit
Now next time I’ll get to how to expand
this list to 2000points and what else we can do with the idea of ‘The Full
Force of an Inquisitor’
Navear,
R
Ps:
C&C always welcome!
Nice list.... the full force would be cool if you used a couple of guard platoons as allies (6th ed FTW) to represent the supreme command inquisitors have over everything bar space marines
